About SCL

Soft Computing

An emerging approach to computing which parallels the remarkable ability of the human mind to reason and learn in an environment of uncertainty and imprecision. (Several well-known techniques are: Artificial Intelligence, Neural Networks, Fuzzy Theory, Genetic Algorithms).

Artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) is intelligence demonstrated by machines, in contrast to the natural intelligence displayed by humans. The field is formally defined as the the study of "intelligent agents": any device that perceives its environment and takes actions that maximize its chance of successfully achieving its goals. Colloquially, AI is often used to describe machines (or computers) that mimic "cognitive" functions that humans associate with the human mind, such as "learning" and "problem solving.

Image processing

deals with the improvement of pictorial information for human interpretation, and processing of scene data for autonomous machine perception.

Pattern recognition

the act of taking in raw data and making an action based on the “category” of the pattern — has been crucial for our survival, and over the past tens of millions of years we have evolved highly sophisticated neural and cognitive systems for such tasks.

Their relations can be described simply by the following figure.

SCIP stands for Soft Computing and Image Processing.

Established in 1992, originally known as “Neural Networks Lab”. In 1999 changed to its current name.
